Happy New Year from the HER Home Design and HER Home Design BUILD Teams! We’re so excited about a fresh start to the new year. We’ve got our teams gathered round the war room table cranking out the best and most innovative design tips for interior design and remodeling this year.
Our designers believe in the value of “Authenticity.” We believe a home should truly be a reflection of the owner’s personal style. That said, the name of the game in 2024 is infusing interior design plans with meaningful furniture and decor pieces.
Successful interior design is more about the way the space makes the clients feel when we’re done than it is about the way a space looks. And in 2024, feeling good and expressing personal style at home is the total package.
In the new year, designers will focus more on working with clients rather than working for them. As a result, we’ll see more personality-rich home interiors.
HERE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE DESIGN AND DECOR TIPS AND TRENDS FOR 2024.
1. BIOPHILIC DESIGN
We love bringing the outside in, and our clients do, too! Showing up in a big way is lush greenery, earthy colors, eco-friendly materials, natural wood cabinetry, and living walls. These design elements help interiors more closely connect to the natural environment and bring nature inside.
2. SMART TECH
Have you experienced the seamless convenience of energy-efficient voice-activated lighting and smart glass? Smart glass goes from transparent to opaque using an electrical current. This feature makes it a great window treatment for maximum privacy without sacrificing a great view.
3. WARM COLOR TONES COUPLED WITH PASTELS
Goodbye, stark white and gray walls. Hello, warm whites like beige and ivory paired with soft mauves and shades of blue. Industry leaders like Sherwin-Williams (Upward SW 6239) and Benjamin Moore (Blue Nova 825) both selected dreamy blue colors for their flagship tones for next year. Looks like 2024 color choices have us well on our way to Hygge bliss.
4. MAXIMALISM AND STATEMENT PIECES
Gone are the days of stark design minimalism and bare rooms. Today’s design client wants a plan that combines diverse textures, geometric shapes, vibrant colors, and mixed metals to express their unique style in a tasteful and thoughtful way. Our 2024 design forecast includes a little more luxury coupled with a lot of comfort.
5. STONE ALL THE WAY UP!
Known as a full height backsplash, countertop material is now extending up onto the wall to create a seamless and modern design in more homes. We’re seeing this trend primarily in kitchens, but we think it’d be gorgeous in a bathroom over a vanity with a beautiful mirror on top.
6. BESPOKE DESIGN ELEMENTS
Your grandfather’s writing desk is making a comeback! We see a rise in vintage, repurposed furniture as well as custom, handmade pieces like floor and wall tiles and cabinetry.
7. COLOR DRENCHING
Create a mood in your space with monochromatic accent walls. Color drenching is painting the walls, ceiling, and trim all the same color, and it’s a painting trend that’s here to stay. Not ready to commit? Small rooms like mud rooms or entryways can be a great choice for color-drenching. The focus on a single color makes the room seem larger. Try it on a small room first and see how you like it.
